NEWS:

Class Expectations:

In this class, we will follow the conduct rules stated in the Student Handbook.

A few reminders:

*You are to be in your seat when the tardy bell rings, or you will be given a tardy.

*You must sit in the same seat everyday unless I move you.

*You must use pen (unless otherwise stated).

*You must bring every book and workbook to class everyday.

*You must also bring the following to class everyday, in addition to books and workbooks:

three ring notebook (at least 1”) to be used ONLY for English with 5 dividers

5-subject spiral

70-page spiral (with 3 holes to fit notebook)

          blue or black pen(s)

          red pen

          wide-ruled notebook paper (no college-ruled)

          200 3”x5” WHITE notecards

          100 3”x5” BLUE notecards

We will do a variety of work in this class.  Below are the main areas of study.  These are also the different divided sections you will need in your English notebook.  The divisions will need to be in the order listed below.

Grammar

Vocabulary

Writing

Literature

Poetry

You will also keep an assignment sheet in your notebook at all times.  The notebooks will be turned in at the end of each six weeks.  Your papers should be in the appropriate section and in order of completion.

***This page is required as the first page in your notebook***

Notebook Requirements

Notebooks will be collected on the last day of each six weeks for a test grade.  I DO NOT take notebooks late.  The following is a list of requirements for your notebook.

  • Class expectations sheet as the first page
  • Completed assignment sheet as the second page
  • Labeled dividers in required order (see previous page)
  • All work in appropriate section and in order of completion
  • All chapter/unit tests must remain in the proper section until the end of the semester.
  • I will not look in other sections for work.  If it is not in the proper section, I will not search for it, resulting in a lower grade.

70-page spiral

This is for Daily Grammar Practice (DGP).  It will remain in your notebook throughout the year.

Make-up Work

You are responsible for getting your make-up work from me.  If you don’t ask for it then you will not receive it.  This will result in zeroes per the late work policy in the student handbook.  If you are absent the day before a test, you are still responsible for the test because the test date will be posted at least a week in advance.

Re-tests

I DO NOT give re-tests due to low grades.  Every student should come prepared for tests.

Cheating

You will receive a zero if you are caught cheating.  This includes letting someone use your paper to copy.  Also, you will receive a zero if you are talking during a test (even if you have already turned yours in).

Extra Credit

I do not give extra credit.  Your six week grade will be the result of your assigned work throughout the six weeks.  If you should choose not to do the work and/or study for exams, your six weeks grade will reflect that.
